Kizz Daniel finally released his highly anticipated single, “EKO” and the song meet with high volume of streams and downloads as expected.
The whole pre-release hype around the song worked but the question is, how many people can sincerely say the song is worth the hype?
Incase you don’t have the song yet, Listen Below:-
When Kizz Daniel first came up with the snippet of the song; “Sho lo wicked o, wicked o, Eko lo ti ma ko ogbon“. He even added “Yeh e Yeh“.
We thought the song is going to be an unforgettable street anthem for Lagos but it’s quite surprising that even despite the hype and the huge download it generated the song can’t even stand the likes of “I Love Lagos” by Olamide, “Eko” by Brymo, let’s not even talk about Wizkid‘s “Ojuelegba“.
It’s quite sad that Kizz Daniel‘s lazy approach in putting together his lyrics on Philkeyz‘s beat made his effort to make a new anthem for Lagos state failed.
Lagos is a unique place where people survive with no-dulling orientation and making of smart moves.
Apart from the line “Eko Lo Ti Ma Kogbo” (Lagos is where you will learn), tell me where else Kizz Daniel define the whole essence of Lagos on the song.
It is safe to say that artwork is far better than the song itself. The yellow commercial colour of Lagos, the 3 wise men (Agba Meta) statute and other depicts Lagos more than the song.
“Eko” by Kizz Daniel is a less creative musical work with too much repetition and short verses, no wonder it didn’t last more than 2 minute 43 seconds.
Overall, we will rate the song 6.7/10
