Joseph Yobo Reveals Why Super Eagles Lost 2 – 1 To Algeria. Former Super Eagles captain , Joseph Yobo , has blamed Gernot Rohr’s men following their 2-1 defeat to Algeria at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations , AFCON , semi-final on Sunday.
Algeria took the lead in the first half , thanks a William Troost–Ekong own goal.
The Super Eagles levelled in the second half , after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) decision , with Odion Ighalo stroking home the penalty.
“In general , we have to give Algeria the credit. They were more possessive of the ball , ” Yobo told SuperSport.
“On the Super Eagles , the organization was not right. The back four needed to come closer and push the Algeria team to the side where they are uncomfortable.”
Nigeria face Tunisia in the third-place playoff on Wednesday , July 17.
Algeria will take on Senegal in the final on Friday , July 19.
