Tattoo might not be the song of the year, but it’s a well-crafted story telling piece from someone who prides himself as a music god – Fireboy

With Eli, we were in awe of Fireboy’s stellar song writing. We heard him create a song about the agony of being seduced by a woman.

She wants him, all the time and he didn’t want to succeed. But eventually, she won. She had her way and Fireboy just like the biblical story of Samson ceded to the powers of this strange woman.

Woman. Beautiful creatures and it’s perhaps the experiences with these creatures that has inspired most of Fireboy’s tracks.

And again on Tattoo, there’s a story about them there.

Listen Here:

You’ll perhaps think Fireboy was singing about his love for Tattoos or how he got one.

No, it’s an invite to his world. A story about seduction. Driven by the moody atmosphere created by delicate guitar chords, we’re thrown off by the texture of Fireboy’s gentle, salient voice. Right there at the beginning.

He’s emotional, like he just went through a bout of crying. It’s whispery. Spreading across. Like a voice at midnight. A voice that grips you. And it did.

And with the first verse, he lets out his feelings. He’s not going to lie about them. He has these lustful desires he wants to fulfill. It’s why he whispers:

“Darling, I’m calling you,
You’re falling
Well, I’m falling too”

The cry is urgent, with a dire need to be satisfied. The message is carnal, driven by lustful ambitions and it seems Fireboy’s testosterone levels are high. He yearns for her and his words seem to have a sudden effect —she’s drawn to his cries and she wants in the pleasure too.

There’s no disconnect here. The mellow strings Typae (the producer) has created helps to helm home the message.

The whole listening is smooth, glossy and so enjoyable.

But then. She’s still not convinced about this. And yeah, Fireboy doesn’t relent. Some exquisite catchy lines follow.

“Make I Dey follow you go wherever you dey go
“You been running through my mind, you be Usain bolt”

Premium, carefully crafted lines. And the thing is, Fireboy isn’t rushing. He’s not in a hurry. The whole session has to be slow. Slow and steady wins the race and he understands this. He complies as well.

And does he wins? The second verse is a story about victory. She cedes in. She desires him too. She wants in. In her mind, lies those lustful desires. And her body responds, desperately in need of Fireboy’s bamboo.

“I dey see the pure desire oh
Make you no go try deny am”

Overall, Fireboy’s Tattoo is a story about lust. When two people are in love, there exists that desire to be entangled in some steamy sessions.
